“I don’t want you anywhere near Archer in the future,” Huxley says pulling back a soft white comforter of the motel we’re staying at for the night. It’s a cute little place off the Vegas strip, which charges better rates because it’s too far to get to most casinos without using the bus. But it’s clean and not a paradise for hookers like a few of these places, so I didn’t complain when Huxley pulled over and reserved the room for the night.

“You and me both.” And I mean it. I would prefer never to see Archer again if possible, but if I have to see him, I want Hucks close.

“Well, that means after this trip we can never come back to Vegas. We need to do our fun stuff now.”

“We’re doing fun stuff?” It’s after ten and we’re way too far from a casino. Sure, it’s true most fun doesn’t happen in Vegas until after dark, but I survived another plane ride today and found out I led Archer right to my group of friends. This is not a day I’ll put money in the slot machines. My luck has run out. “Look, if you want to go waste money on the slots, be my guest, but I’m tired. Once I lay my head on the pillow, I’m not getting out.”

Huxley stands behind me, placing a kiss on the space between my collarbone and neck. “I want to put something in something but it’s not a slot machine.”

I laugh, my head bobbing forward and accidentally pulling away from him. “That is the worst pick-up line I have ever heard in my entire life.”

Huxley’s laugh matches mine and when I turn, he smiles and his eyes brighten up the room. He brightens up everywhere he goes. Like a Huxley lightbulb. Even though were in Vegas chasing my ex-boyfriend, who is probably on his way to put my friends in danger, Huxley has found time to make me smile. And that is why I’m simply falling in love with the man.

“The question isn’t if it’s corny. That’s a given. What matters is if it worked.”
